Sewing Mends...

I was visiting Anna's lovely blog while having my morning coffee. Her post title said  "sewing mends." I had to comment on this because i do so relate to that. After breakfast, i was doing some hand stitching, finishing some new Matryoshkas and i thought to myself how good, how relaxing this moment brought me. I love using my sewing machine, but the handstitching is ( i think ) more therapeutic.I tend to lose myself in my own little world and nothing else seem to exist, except for the stillness, the silence inside my home. I love being by myself.
Creating nourishes my soul and eases daily tension. This week, i made 6 new Matryoshkas. I just listed 3 in my shop, the others will have to wait their turn until i am completely done with the handstitching. Maybe i just need to extend the pleasure a little bit more ?
Do not forget to visit Anna, she has such a lovely blog and make the most beautiful tapes and other lovely things with.fabric ♥

Happy thursday to all my lovelies ♥

My new sewing machine !

After a whole month home, hubby went back to work yesterday. Every christmas, he is off for two weeks, but had to stay home another two more because of back and neck problems. He's been having back problems for many years and being a lineman for hydro doesn't help. But i must say here that during his 2 weeks holidays, he worked too hard renovating our bedroom. I told him to slow down, that he had all winter, but hubby's a pig head...And he hurt his back...again...humph...Me was mad, cause he never listen until he realizes he should have. He always tells me " i hate to say you were right. " and i reply: " i am a woman, i am always right. " Teehee ! Poor hubby, he lives in a woman's world, no guys in the house except him. Even the cat is a she. So sometimes i must let him beleive he is a fine good rooster. Awww, i am so mean...I can't help it, i love to tease him.
So.... Need i tell you the house was really quiet and empty yesterday ? I should have been happy, having the house to myself and going back to my sewing is something i was longing for. But i missed my little boy. I did nothing but roam around the house and knit. I have tons of orders to complete, there is not much time for knitting. So i must push myself to go back in my sewing room. Guess i need time to get back to my routine.
The christmas season was very nice and cozy this year. Despite hubby's desire to tear down walls, i had time to take things easy, go for walks and do some knitting. I had many lovely gifts from everyone and hubby even surprised me with a new sewing machine ! I had an old basic one and was dreaming of having something with more stitch patterns. So imagine my joy when he offered me the singer fashion mate ! 70 stitch patterns, oh my !!! I was so happy, my face was gleaming when i saw him coming to me with the the big box. It works so perfectly, so smoothly, she hums so happily compared to my oldie. Poor thing, she has been working so hard for so many years. I will send her for a good tune up and give it to young daughter Anne. I know my old machine will give her many hours of happy sewing and creating.
I hope your day is good !

waking up at dawn

I woke up in the middle of the night with an eagerness to get up and set to work. But i reasoned myself and tried to get to sleep. Hubby rises up early so i thought soon as he leaves, i would start the day.
6:35am, got up, washed my face, lit up a fire, and prepared coffee ( I won't survive without a hot fresh mug ) Hummm, this is so good.
The house is still dark and very quiet. Outside the air is chilly, but i can see a tiny ray of light. The morning is waking up slowly. The trees ( or most of them ) sadly lost their leaves and the bare branches make a stark contrast against the early morning.

This is my favorite part of the day when all is still and barely waking up. I feel cozy inside in the warmth of the house, still wearing my flannel Pyjamas and writing a little good morning post as i sip my hot coffee and listen to the crackling of the fire.
I am not particularly fond of winters. Or maybe this is just because our summers are so short, i don't know. For the past couple days it has been very windy and i could almost smell the snow. I felt like a child awaiting excitedly for the first storm...I love sitting on the couch , knitting and watch a snowfall. I love winter cocooning. I am a homebody. Staying home makes me happy.
Today i have a lot of work. Last night i traced and cut many Muffinpies to be and other projects . It is going to be a busy and very exciting day. I lost many days of work during october. Mommy Maude and baby Jacob ( who is growing so fast )stayed here a couple more weeks, but now they have happily settled in their newly built house, which is practically in my backyard. Love my girl and little baby, but releived they finally moved out. I needed my space to get on with my work. She and her hubby stayed here almost 4 months. It was wonderful to have them with us, but i guess it was time they move. Besides, she is just a few yards away, we can visit anytime we wish.

This is a tiny piece of my studio you see. One day i will show you more of it, but not until i have it tidied up a bit. I tend to forget about cleaning up when i immersed myself in long hours of work. I love my working space. It is a large room with french doors that open on a little balcony.
But you'll have to be patient until i decide to show you.
Oh, the clock is ticking , guess i have to say goodbye til next time.
I hope your day is as wonderful and inspiring.

Granny to be...

I knew it was just a matter of time, for years she had been yearning to become a mommy...Last week we received a call from my daughter Maude. Her voice on the phone was very excited when she told us " that's it ! i am pregnant !! ".... Oh my gosh, i am going to be a granny i thought ...Am i happy ? Considering the picture you see here, it doesn't look so. (laughs)

Of course i am happy !!! Who wouldn't be happy by such wonderful news ?
Maude will turn 24 in april, but as long as i can remember, she wanted to be a mom. So as soon as she graduated from university last year, she went on with her plan. She is a very determined person, when she decides she wants something, she gets it. Along with her boyfriend, she bought her first house while she was still studying at university. Last year they bought a lot behind our house and they will probably start building their new house this summer. It is wonderful, knowing our daughter will live next to us. My first daughter Geneviève ( She and Maude are only 11 months apart ) is studying abroad in Brussels and i miss her everyday. We still have young Anne ( 18 ) living with us, thank God. I hope she wont leave soon, i want to keep her close to me a little bit more. Awww, mommies whatever age the youngest is, we still consider them our little baby. Anyways, can you imagine ?!? I am going to be a granny ? I am so very excited! After i gave birth to my 3rd daughter, hubby ran to the doctor to have his " thing " fixed. :) Was scared i would make more babies. That would have been probably the case. I was very sad, knowing Anne would be my last child. I wished i had 4 or 5. Being a grandmother has its privileges though . And i am lucky my daughter will be so close by. I will have the opportunity to see and love that little thing anytime i want. I am already thinking of all the knitting and sewing projects i want to make. If some of you have some great links on knitting and sewing babies clothes, i would love it if you could share some of them.
I can't wait to show you some pics of my daughter's growing belly. But that will take some time. Baby is due only in mid-october. I'll keep you posted with more details of her pregnancy.

Have a lovely day everyone ♥

For the past 2 weeks, i have been so busy that blogging became almost a chore rather than a pleasant moment. I have this part time job , working from 5am to 8pm 5 days a week. Getting up that early is not always easy, ( i get up at 3:30am ) but i have been doing that for almost 7 years now. What i like about this job, is that i get home early and still have all day to create, garden, do house chores, ect.

My husband and i own a sailboat. And we met this guy who owns a sail shop. He makes sails and repairs old ones. He is an artisan, being the only one in Quebec doing his sails the way he does. His studio is small but cute, overlooking a small lake where small sailboats abound. Thing is, working all alone, he was overloaded with work and needed a helper. I was not really keen on the idea, but he was so desperate and said he needed me for 2 or 3 weeks. So i agreed to help him. I thought i would hate the job, but i find it interesting and somewhat enjoyable. He offered me to be his year round "helper ". The pay is good, i would work 2 days a week and i could quit the other job. That means no more getting up at 3:30am ! I hesitated, but then i thought it was an offer i could not refuse. All that blabbering to tell you that i did not quit the other job. I still have to get up at 3 and work the 2 jobs. It is very long and exhausting hours. I know this was only temporary, but i am neglecting my shop, my family ( i have been cooking them terrible meals for 2weeks ) and my gardening. When i got home this morning, i was so tired that i almost fell asleep when i was driving. I decided to take a day off. I called my friend to tell him i was sorry, but i had to stay home. He is very comprehensive and told me to take it easy.

So here i am, taking a moment for my friend bloggers . I missed you ! :)

I still have a hectic schedule today though, having to pack for our sailing weekend, clean up the house, do some sewing, hoping i can list a few things in my shop today and cook a GOOD meal for poor neglected unhappy hubby. Whew !

I will try and be back next week. Until then, i wish you all a happy warm and sunny weekend !

♥ love you all ♥

Summer days

Summer days are finally here and it feels so good. Yesterday the weather was just perfect and i was driving home with the window down. I was feeling completely happy just by feeling the warmness of the wind and the sweet smell of the fresh cut grass. I live in the countryside and the scenery here never stops to fascinate me. We decided to sell the house because we feel the urge to live in an even more remote area. I want to wake up every morning and see beautiful rolling hills, not collected trash in our neighbour's yard. I am not a hermit, of course, i do enjoy being with people. But i do need my peace and tranquility. My little neighborhood used to be a quiet and pretty place to live in. Unfortunately, over the past years, new people came and things changed. They don't really care for pretty flower beds and cleanliness. Moving away was a hard and painful decision, because i have so many beautiful memories of my life there with my family. But 2 of my daughters left the nest and i feel i am ready for a new beginning.

Sunday is father's day and i decided to offer my little boy hubby a box filled with little surprises. One of them being knitted dishcloth. ( What ?! ) Yep ! He's been asking for some handmades to use at the sailboat. We have a 36 feet Pearson Ketch ( very pretty and comfy ) and we like spending weekends there sailing at the lake and relaxing. Anyway, speaking of knitted dishcloth, i do hope he likes them. The girls at work thought it was a pretty funny gift to offer to a man, but in the end, one even offered to crochet an extra dishcloth for him. I have another one on the needles that is almost finished, so he will have four pretty dishcloths. Spoiled hubby ! I am also working on a decorative pillow ( for the sailboat of course ) and will post some more pictures later for everybody to see. So many things i have been working on this past spring. From knitted socks, to pretty coasters, to sewing lovely dolls, aprons, totes and pincushions. I will try and post all these pretty things i have been working on as soon as possible. In the meantime, i better get on with my day. I have a long list of chores waiting to be done. And that includes cutting the grass. Yuk !
See ya !

A fabulous magazine !

For those of you who do not know about this great magazine, I suggest that you try and find a copy. Marie-Claire idées comes from France and has tons of great articles and ideas on decoration, knitting, sewing, crafting and so on. This " exemplaire " just got out on the newsstand, but i am still searching for it in my area. I am really anxious to get my hands on it. My daughter who lives and studies in Brussels bought it last week and she told me there is this sweet crocheted handbag pattern for us to create and i want to give it a try. This is just one of the numerous projects Marie-Claire idées offers. You can read this magazine over and over again and there is always something new to discover. The pages are so colorful, the articles interesting and the craft projects always pretty and accessible to all. I always get my money's worth each time i get a copy of Marie-Clair idées.

A new month !

At last, January is behind us and a new month begins. January has been particurlarly cold here in Quebec and people ( including me ) are having the winter blues. As I sit here, typing and sipping my hot coffee, i look at the grey sky outside waiting for the storm to hit. Yep, another one is on it's way and i am very glad i do not need to go out. I am feeling much comfortable inside with my pyjamas still on (well, it's only 9:20am) and listening to the roaring of the fire in the woodstove. The wind has picked up and the snow will be blowing in no time. I do enjoy snowstorms, as long as i do not have to drive somewhere. I would rather stay home, bake some cookies, knit or sew, enjoying the view outside. I feel like knitting, i have 3 projects on the needles so far and the 4th is coming soon ! Yes ! It's the 1st of the month and i do hope i will receive my sock pattern from sockamania today. I have been checking my mail for the past few days in the hope that i would get my pattern before the end of the month. I know, i can't sit still, when i want something i get very impatient. I bought several balls of fabel yarn from garnstudio and i will probably knit my first pair with one of the colors i bought. Well, it would be unwise not to use any of this soft yarn and buy something else. Before i start knitting those socks, i have to finish my fan and feather comfort shawl which is almost done. ( at last ! )I have only eight rows to go and i just can't wait to see the finishing results ! I will post it next week for you to see. Last wednesday i went to a yarn shop and bought some yarn to knit 2 patterns i fell in love with in a french knit magazine i bought a couple of weeks ago. There are a lot of great patterns and i want to try them all ! My first choices were arm warmers and a hat and scarf. The hat and scarf come as a one piece set (knit together) and it is absolutely lovely. I bought the same yarn the pattern recommends and i love its softness. I will be posting some pictures next week of my work in progress. Today i must ABSOLUTELY sew all the dolls bodies i have been cutting yesterday. I decided to make more raggedy anns ( like the one who was on the Storque spotlight on etsy ) but with an easter bunny costume. I have it all in my head and i think they will be A-DO-RA-BLE !!! I am not tellling anymore, i have to keep it a secret until i post my new dolls up for sale in my etsy shop. There will be more than just raggedies so don't forget to keep an eye open. Should have them ready in a couple of weeks. Ok, i guess work is calling me. if i want to finnish knitting my shawl and continue on my other knitting projects, i 'd better go do my sewing before.
